What's happening in Room 13?
INQUIRY STUDY
From week 6, term 3, room 13 will undertake a study on the Delhi Commonwealth Games 2010.
ACTIVITIES AND TASKS
- Poetry Study
- Currently Room 13 is studying a range of poems. The poems will form a background od our Inquiry Study on Delhi Commonwealth Games 2010.
- We have started with the writing of limericks in class. Thereafter the students will write a Haiku and other forms of poems. Students will collect all theitr written poems into a booklet after the completetion of the Inquiry Study.
- Explanations
- Students will come to uderstands the importance of writing explanations and why these are so important in making inferences, making meaning and understanding.
- students undertake a range of activities in class with regards to explanations by studying storuies and short prose on explanations.
- Research Study
- Each student has selected a country for research study. The learning intentions and success criteria are set out on their sheet provided to them.
- the research study will explain more inddepth study of the country within the commonwealth
- this research is due on Friday at the end of week 9.
- Spellathon
- The normal spelling activities have been put on hold for the next three weeks.
- New lists have been given to students which is linked to the schoolwide spellathon that is organised
- Please assist your children with sponsorship and testing them at home
ORAL LANGUAGE
Students are engaging in daily spoken language by speaking on sometghing of ineterest every morining in class. Please support your child to bring something extraordinary to class for discussion.
SPEECH CONTEST
All students presented a prepared speech in class this term. Many were of a high standard. The following students participated in the interclass contest:

SCHOOL PERFORMANCE
Some students from room 13 have been selected for the up and coming performance, Hercules, which will staged in the middle of September. The students selected are:

- Brandon Best
READING AND WRITING
READING ACTIVITIES
Students are currently engaged in dailyu reading tasks in class. They range from:
- SRA
- This is an individualised programme in which each student is given a colour level according to their PM running record level
- Students complete a reading task in 45 minutes and then mark their work
- If they score 90% in two consecutive tests, they can then move up a new colour level
- This happens every Monday and Tuesday until the rest of the term
- SSR
- SSR is a silent sustained reading programme that happens every day in class.
- Students have been trained to read for a period of 10 minutes and write a response to what they have read
- After completing a book, the student will write a book review
- CLOSE READING
- Each week students complete a short reading prose study for understanding and inferencing and then answer questions based on them.
- The prose study is based on the inquiry study, explanations and character education
