Room 8
Hi and welcome back to Term 3 in Room 8.
Friday 23rd JulyHi and welcome back to another exciting and busy term. I hope you enjoyed your break.
This term our topic is on Countries from around the world. We will be looking at how people’s lives in other countries differ from our lives in New Zealand.
Reading; Thank you to all who are reading and filling out the reading logs at home. The reading logs show me who is reading at night. Remember the book can be any book, it doesn’t just have to be the one that comes home from school. Books should be coming home every night as they change from their pick boxes every day.
s part of our oral programme, your child will be given an opportunity to select a poem at their reading level and the expectation is that they learn the poem for homework over a period of time. Towards the end of the term they will be expected to either read or recite their poem to the class.
Maths We will be continuing to focus on Multiplication and Division for the first 4 weeks and then we will be moving onto Measurement from week 5. We will also be coving fractions throughout the term in our Maths Tumble. You can help your child at home by encouraging them to practice their basic facts, doubles, groups of ten, and skip counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10,s. Try to get them to be quicker each time and check that they are using the different strategies they are learning at school. Baking is a great way to help children to understand measurement in the kitchen.
Homework It’s started again and it will be coming home on a Monday and must return on Fridays. Spelling words are tested on a Monday so if your child needs more time to practice they can do so over the weekend. If homework isn’t returned on Friday, your child will miss the marking session.
Uniform This term when the ground is very wet and children do get covered in mud, particularly if they slip over. Please ensure your child has a change of pants in their bag as this makes dealing with accidents a lot easier. The uniform looks fantastic and I know it’s that time of year where it can be difficult to get clothing dried. If your child needs to come to school with non uniform clothing they need to bring a note from home. Please make sure all uniform is labelled.
Parent Help in the classroom If you have any time and would like to come and listen to children read I have a programme set up and you can come in and listen to the children’s lovely reading. Please come and see me. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and ready for another busy school term. Please don’t hesitate to come and talk to me before or after school.
Thank you

Room 8 Homework Notice
We are going to continue with sending a homework sheet home each Monday regarding what they have to do each week. These will be marked on Fridays and the Spelling will be tested on the following Monday.
Extra things like a sports group, dance, music, helping with jobs, family discussions, playing outside with friends and so on are also a very important part of a child’s development.
Each family differs in its needs, and wants regarding homework, therefore as far as I am concerned it is up to you to decide how much homework your child needs to do and whatever they hand in I will accept as is.
If your child doing the homework please go over it with him/her, assist when you can and try to get your child to do their best work, then sign it off with a positive comment.
